The Blue Future project integrates recent Mozambican legislation on biodiversity and maritime fisheries regulation (REPMAR), promoting sustainable small-scale fisheries co-management through a multifaceted approach by collaborating with local communities and the Mozambican Government, using scientific research, local insights, and practical experience to restore and protect vital ecosystems, enhancing resilience against climate change. This partnership ensures continued resource utilization by communities while establishing conservation measures.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This holistic strategy aims to achieve sustainable fisheries by enhancing local management capacities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and establishing robust monitoring mechanisms. Notably, the project is bolstering the roles of Community Fishing Councils (CCPs) in managing fisheries. It should be emphasized that the training provided also addresses potential conflicts or human rights issues, ensuring sustainable and harmonious management of fishing areas.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Diagnosis<\/h5>
By collaborating with local communities, authorities and the National Fisheries Administration (ADNAP), the project assesses the existing Fishing Centres and Community Fishing Councils (CCPs), maps fisheries patterns and assesses the main fishing resources, to redesign CCPs jurisdiction areas, resizing some and creating others, legalizing 7 CCPs as per the new legislation (standard statutes of the CCPs and REPMAR) <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Reinforcement<\/h5>
According to REPMAR, CCPs have defined roles such as licensing supervision, resource monitoring, pollution control, and implementing management plans within Community-managed fishing areas (APGCs), which are recognized under REPMAR as community-controlled zones promoting sustainable fisheries. Therefore, the project trains and supports the 7 CCPs, ensuring they have the necessary skills, resources, and equipment to manage these areas sustainably. The project promotes infrastructure development, with plans to construct locally designed headquarters for CCPs and provide them with fully-equipped patrolling boats for effective monitoring and enforcement.<\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Sustainability<\/h5>
It prioritizes the establishment of Community-Managed Fishing Areas (APGCs) and permanent and temporary resource recovery areas (ARRs), which have the objective if conserving endangered marine species and ecosystems, in line with new marine regulations. Collaborating with existing partners, the project supports the 7 CCPs in legalizing these areas, developing comprehensive management plans, and introducing monitoring frameworks, enhancing their capacity to manage and monitor these areas effectively. <\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
