Ecosystem-based adaptation
Blue Future focuses on promoting Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) measures to protect and enhance the resilience of the project’s area coastal communities and ecosystems. The project emphasizes the restoration and conservation of key marine and coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, seagrasses, coral reefs, and coastal forests to mitigate the impacts of storms, surges, and floods.
Enhancing Awareness and Regional Collaboration
The project enhances national and regional awareness for EbA in Mozambique’s coastal zone, collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and forums. Annual events, workshops, and forums disseminate project results, discuss EbA requirements, and exchange experiences. Additionally, the project contributes lessons to regional platforms like the Nairobi Convention and Western Indian Ocean Consortium, promoting a broader regional exchange of EbA knowledge and practices.
We are building a sustainable future for ecosystems and communities in East Africa
The project integrates EbA principles into ecosystem conservation, community livelihoods, and food security strategies, aligning with national targets and fostering regional collaboration to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Ecosystem-based Adaptation
Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) is an approach to climate change adaptation that uses natural ecosystems and biodiversity to help people adapt to the adverse effects of climate change. It involves the sustainable management, conservation, and restoration of ecosystems to reduce the vulnerability of communities and enhance their resilience in the face of climate change impacts. Ecosystem-based adaptation recognizes that healthy ecosystems can provide various services that support human well-being and protect against environmental stressors.
