Between the 16th and 24th of June, another cycle of training was held exploring Rules and Regulations in Community Management Fisheries Areas (APGCs) that can benefit fishermen and the conservation of resources, aimed at the Community Fisheries Councils (CCPs) of the districts of Memba, Mossuril and Nacala-Ã -Velha.
This training is part of the growth of CCPs and marks the beginning of a series of trainings focused on strengthening community governance capacity and building mutual understanding among the local fishing community, aiming at sustainable and participatory management of marine resources.
It is thus intended to align the guidelines of the future Marine Conservation Area (MCA) of sustainable uses of Memba – Mossuril, aligning conservation needs, recovery of marine and fisheries resources and integrated community development.

During the training, the understanding of ARRs (Resource Recovery Areas) and APGCs was reinforced; encouraging CCPs to identify management priorities based on their local realities; promoting reflections on the role of the different actors involved (neighbouring communities, authorities, external fishermen, tourists) and the impacts of the decisions taken based on the promotion of dialogue, community ownership and the technical feasibility of the proposed measures.
The training was attended by local community leaders, members of the CCPs of the communities involved; technicians from WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), AMA (Environment Association), ADNAP (National Fisheries Administration) and SDAE (District Service of Economic Activities).
This initiative represents a significant step towards participatory coastal management, with a focus on conserving marine ecosystems and improving the living conditions of fishing communities. Strengthening CCPs is critical to ensuring that future decisions on the use and conservation of marine resources are sustainable, inclusive and effective.
